Jamaica Captures 2005 Digicel Cup
Bridgetown, Barbados -Jamaica is the 2005 Digicel Caribbean Cup champions as Reggae Boyz striker Luton Shelton scored early in the second-half to lead Jamaica to a 1-0 victory over Cuba. Jamaica's goal came when Shelton pounced on a long ball from Jermaine Taylor and tapped it past the advancing goalkeeper Odelin Molina Hernandez on 48 minutes. For their effort, Jamaica won the first prize of US$100,000 and their third Caribbean title, following successes in 1991 and 1998. The Cubans took home US$50,000 for finishing second. Both teams now qualify for the CONCACAF Gold Cup in the United States in July. In the second game Trinidad and Tobago defeated Barbados 3-2 becoming the third team to advance to the Gold Cup.
