Jamaica fall 3-0 to Canada in CONCACAF Under-17 World Cup qualifying tournament.

Jamaica’s Under -17 team suffered a blow to their U-17 World Cup dreams as they lost 3-0 against Canada at the National Stadium last night. Goals from Daniel Tannous in the 6th minute, Jarek Whiteman in the 42nd and William Hyde in the 83rd pushed Jamaica to an early setback in the five-team CONCACAF Under-17 World Cup qualifying tournament.

For the most part, Jamaica U-17 offered little response and struggled to lift their game making bad passes and booting the ball aimlessly when under pressure. Although Canada dominated, Jamaica had a good chance in the 16th minute when Marion Boothe was release down the right by Kenniel Hyde, but the shot from the edge of the 18-yard box flew over the Canadians goal. CONCACAF U-17 Final Round Group B set for Jamaica

Jamaica will host the 2007 CONCACAF Under-17 Final Round Qualification Group B from 28 April
– 6 May at the National Stadium in Kingston. Jamaica, which is staging its second CONCACAF U-17 Final Round event, will greet Canada, Costa Rica, Trinidad & Tobago and USA in Group B, from which three teams will progress to the FIFA U-17 World Cup Korea Republic 2007 from 18 August – 9 September.

Haiti and the hosts, Honduras were the first two CONCACAF representatives to qualify to the FIFA U-17 World Cup after finishing first and second, respectively, in Group A Qualification heldat the Tiburcio Carias Andino Stadium in Tegucigalpa from 4-8 April

Coached by Anton Corneal, Trinidad & Tobago are making their first appearance at the CONCACAF Final Round since 1999 … The soca warriors are competing in their 11th CONCACAF Qualification, which is the most by any Caribbean team, after hosting and finishing third at the CFU Youth Cup last year … Trinidad & Tobago defeated Aruba, Grenada and Guyana in the first round … After tying Barbados and defeating Surinam, the soca warriors lost to the eventual tournament champions Haiti to end the second round … Trinidad & Tobago captured the third-place honour with a victory over Jamaica.

An afternoon that promised a new Champion belatedly crown the “Stars of the East” not in their clash with relegated bound Naggo Head but in a strange twist of faith, when dethroned Champions Waterhouse scored against second placed Portmore United, with only nine minutes left in the late game at Drewsland.

Eleven points separates the leaders but with Portmore United faltering in their fourth consecutive drawn game (0-0,2-2,2-2-1-1) effectively put themselves out of the running for the title (on 55 points) and have to be more productive in securing a few victories in the last three games less they are also bypassed by the lurking Reno FC who are on 53 points and challenging for a place in the CFU Caribbean Club Championship.

Harbour View by virtue of the results have assumed an unassailable lead of 10 points with only a best possible 9 points on claim, this sparked a spontaneous celebration by the players glued to the Live Radio Broadcast at the Club.

Horns started tooting, banging on signboards, shouts, cries and screams were bellowed from the greatest heights as relief was achieved and finally, finally we exhaled after the trauma of last years poor finish.

The Xzibit crew cranked up the disco as wild dancing erupted on the dance-floor, players, coaches, managers and executives were severely doused with water as liquor flowed sweetly, smiles adorned the faces of the many long suffering fans, media personalities and supporters as TVJ filmed every active moment of it inclusive of interviews.

At midnight the crowd slowly started treking home as the party is to be continued in earnest on Sunday as the Live TV home game against Trelawny’s Village United where an official presentation of the Premier League Trophy, Medals and the necessary pomp and pageantry that accompanies it. JFF to assist Parish Associations and Confederations.

The Board of Directors of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) have accepted the recommendation of the General Secretary, Burchell Gibson, that all Parish Associations and National Confederations be given special attention to improve the efficiency of their respective administrative processes. Effective September 1, 2007 the Federation’s thirteen (13) Parish Associations and the four (4) Confederations will each receive a monthly subvention of J$20,000.00 to assist with local administrative activities.

The General Scretary will also conduct a survey within all local football secretariats to ascertain the various technological needs that exist as the Federation seeks to improve the technological capabilities of the Parish Associations and Confederations. In addition the Jamaica Football Federation will organise training sessions for Parish Associations and Confederations to improve the skills of local football secretariat personnel in electronic communication of information and management of data.
